I promised someone I would record myself playing, so here's one from Chrono Cross. Sorry about the low light, I guess I had low light compensation shut off on my camera or something, because it was overcast today, and I had my room lights off.

Watched some tutorial videos about mixing and mastering audio and stuff, so let me know if it sounds okay. I don't really know much about the technical side of all that, so I hope it sounds alright.

I was able to embed the sound file for this into the guitarpro file as well, so you should be able to play along with this instead of the stock guitarpro sound when you play it yourself. You can always shut it off XD but you will probably want to remove all the tempo sync points that goes along with my performance of it. Stil, that's pretty cool. I didn't know that was possible at all.

Forget-Me-Not - Solo Guitar

August 11th 2024 at 10:14 PM

How about a new original? The inspiration behind this piece was a composition that one of my subscribers posted on my discord. It was a short, 10 measure musical idea that they had been working on, and my original intention was just to look it over and make some suggestions. I got completely sucked into writing, though, and it ended up turning into a full-blown piece. Whoops!

The title is a nod to the original, which was called "Water Her Flower," so I thought tying it in with Forget-Me-Not's, which are a type of flower, and the double meaning behind that and the "her," from the original title would be a fun idea.

I was in a good mood when I wrote it, and I hope that comes through! Happy strumming!

Wipe Away The Tears (Romancing SaGa) for Guitar Duet - Featuring guest musician Passagallia!

August 9th 2024 at 7:01 PM

Subscribe to Passagallia's Twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/passagallia and Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@passagallia

Passagallia is an INCREDIBLE musician I had the pleasure of meeting on Twitch one day and she was an instant follow for me. She streams violin music, and plays everything from classical, to pop, to anime and videogames, and everything in between. If you're lucky, she'll even whip out the otamatone and perform on that, with hilarious results!

On this occasion, she was doing live learns, so I sent her this guitar duet and scrambled to record the 2nd guitar part and send it to her before her stream ended. This is her playing it for the first time, sight-reading! Incredible musicianship and technique, and very charming and funny. Her streams are always a good time, so be sure to check her out! You'll probably see me in the chat goofing around too! (Apologies about the blurriness, she was having camera issues at the time)

Quick Update! Radical Dreamers Redux

Just checking in with everyone, hope you're all doing well.

Summer classes have completed and I got through with straight A's! Woo!
But what I really care about, is that it means 2 weeks of no classes, meaning I can focus solely on music for a while!

I've got a lot of arrangements brewing, but in the meantime, I went ahead and finally updated my Radical Dreamers arrangement. It was arranged YEARS ago, back when I didn't know much about any of this, so I went through it again, separating the voices properly, adding barre notation, fixing some minor errors here and there, and fleshed out the choir section a smidge.

You can compare the same page between the two, to see how it's changed. I think it's easier to really understand the melody against the accompaniment, and that's really the proper way it should be written out anyway.

So, expect some activity on the site throughout the next two weeks! I want to take as much advantage of the free time as I can, before Fall classes start!

Stay well, and happy strumming!

Lost, Broken Shards from Xenogears

Not really sure what prompted this...but I just felt like doing something a little different. It's been a while since I wrote for anything other than solo guitar, so, while this does have a guitar in it, it's more a trio. As far as the vocalist, I hope you don't hate it. I didn't have any decent cello sounds to mimic the original, and I think it takes it somewhere different, especially at the climax. Speaking of which, sorry! I rarely arrange anything for piano, and I went a little wild with it. :P

Anyway, hope you don't mind something different once in a while. Don't worry, we'll get back to our regularly scheduled programming, this was just because I was in the mood.

sheet music/tabs: Ripples of Daydream / Whence the Flow Cometh (Genshin Impact) - The Bear's Den (kabukibear.com)

This is some LOVELY music from Genshin Impact. There is a theme heard in Springvale for two guitars, that I knew I wanted to arrange as a solo. I figured if I was doing that already, I might as well arrange the other theme and, because they both are relatively short, arrange them in such a way that they can be combined into one longer piece. So, this is the result. I hope you like it.

Concrete Tears (Zenless Zone Zero) - The Bear's Den (kabukibear.com)

So, I was playing ZZZ this morning, and got to a little cutscene involving Koleda's past. At one point, a guitar duet starts playing, and I thought it was really nice, so I transcribed it. Knowing, however, that most people are more interested in solos rather than duets, I got it to work as a solo piece as well. I don't actually know what the name of the piece is, so I gave it the name because I thought it was kind of fitting, given the story.

This was just for fun! I uploaded 7 arrangements at once, and I didn't have a chance to make videos for each on to put up here. I needed a video to put up with the Patreon post, so I said, "well, let's let AI SING the update." And if I was already doing that, you know I had to make a music video to go along with it. It was just me being a goof. Here are the arrangements uploaded:

To Far Away Times from Chrono Trigger

July 5th 2024 at 10:08 PM

This was one I had looked at multiple times in the past, but never could figure out a way to get it to work in a way I liked. I guess time and experience really are the best teachers, because I decided to take a look at it recently and everything just kind of "clicked." The body taps are optional, but I think I wrote it in a way that shouldn't be too hard to pull off, and the suggested fingering is included. Hope you enjoy this wonderful track from an amazing game!

Going back to some of my favorite game OST's, I have no idea why I never arranged this one before. Someone suggested it in a comment, and I thought, "...sure why not?" So here it is. Not a hard one to play at all; it sits nicely on the guitar as much of Mitsuda's work does.

I usually don't tackle pieces that have a lot of sustained strings, but because it was commissioned, it was a good experience and got me out of my arranging comfort zone. I hope you enjoy it!

This was a lovely commission request recently; the beautiful vocal theme from FF7 Rebirth. I was requested to make an intermediate version of the full song, so I did my best to get all of the music there, without making it too tough to play. Feel free to use a capo to brighten it up if it feels too low for you. It's been transposed down, so use a capo on 5 for the original key. Hope you enjoy it!

I popped this one out when I was procrastinating on an arrangement I was SUPPOSED to be working on. If you ever find yourself beating your head against a wall with music, sometimes it's good to step back, without stepping completely AWAY, if that makes sense. This piece is like a cozy pair of warm socks. ^^

Lullaby "Sleepy Version" by Johannes Brahms

I was messing around with an idea, but I never ended up using this for anything. I figured it's a nice, easy, piece for beginners, though, so I decided to share it anyway. I was playing around with unusual patterns in the bass and changing harmonies around a bit. Originally, I had tried doing something in 12/8 and 15/8 time, but I couldn't seem to fit the melody over it in a way that was satisfying, given that it's originally in 3/4. So, 9/8 was close enough.

So, I noticed that two pieces from Super Mario 64 were missing from my site: File Select and Dire Dire Docks. I went ahead and uploaded File Select, but for Dire Dire Docks, I was missing the Guitarpro file for it. Since I was having to input it manually from the PDF, I went ahead and made some improvements to the original arrangement, based on some feedback I received when I posted the original video on Youtube a while back.

I think the changes enhance the piece quite a bit from the original, without making it harder to play, so this is now the recommendedl version. If you've checked it out in the past, give this version a go, I think you'll find it much more satisfying!

This was another commission, and it was challenging to arrange! The original is so sparse and relies a lot on a really slinky bassline and held chords, so I tried to keep the bassline in there with everything else. It's still an introspective piece, but I think it was successful.

This was another commissioned piece. The artificial harmonics are optional, but encouraged. Also, beware the tuning! You're going both directions, so make sure you're up-tuning SLOWLY. I take no responsibility for any popped strings!

Regarding the harmonics, generally you touch the notated fret with your index finger and pluck with the pinky, but I find it easier, in this piece, to pluck with your middle finger. Less of a stretch. Good luck!
